Director’s note

October 4, 2004

October seems the perfect month to present the tale of Nosforatu, the undead. The

shadows grow longer. The days grow shorter. A darkness descends.

The story of Dracula has captivated our imaginations for over a century. We are drawn

to the battle between good and evil. We are tempted by our romantic fascination with

the idea of eternal life, no matter what the cost.

Dracula represents a powerful evil. He seduces his victims with his charm and unearthly

powers, yet objectifies those he most desires. It is a chilling seduction. The vampire

plays a lone hand. It is his isolation that leads to his undoing. Ultimately, love and

community triumph over the forces of darkness.

Tonight, there is a chill in the air as we begin our story. Dogs will bark, bats will fly and

wolves will howl.

Sit back. Try to relax. The wolves are but the children of the night. “What beautiful

music they make.”
