Director’s Note

Follies is bittersweet. It is a reflective memory play of regrets and of roads not

taken. The characters reunite at their old theatre after 30 years to take stock and

to look back from where they had come.

Setting a production of Follies in the Crawford Mansion is not without its

challenges. It’s a small space, and we are a large cast. In the forced intimacy of

these walls, we have pieced together our version of this complicated work. We

have all learned so much about this play and about each other.

Ghosts walk this stage with the actors. Time warps and we travel with it on

emotional roller coaster. Sondheim tells us that the past is a closed door; that we

have today, and we have each other.

This January marks the 25th anniversary of the Port Chester Council for the Arts.

Follies seems an appropriate celebration of the artistic talents of this community.

From our actors, set designers and musicians, to our graphic designers,

choreographers and stage crew, we have enough creativity and community to

keep us warm on even the coldest of Winter nights.

Happy Anniversary.
